Two youths were killed in road mishaps in two separate places and 8 people including four TSR personnel were injured in two other road accidents while there was a narrow escape for TTAADC chairman Jagadish Debbarma on Tuesday.
The two incidents of deaths were reported from Boxonagar in Sepahijala district and Karailang in Khowai district.
A youth, who was out on a vehicle to celebrate Eid, died in a tragic incident at Boxonagar.
The youth- Mohammed Jonny (18), resident of North Kalamchaura in Sonamura sub-division, died on the spot as he came under wheels of a vehicle after falling from another vehicle on Boxonagar- Sonamura road, a police officer told the reporters.
Police said, according to the locals, the youth, accompanied by some others, was enjoying in another vehicle that came to Boxonagar. When the vehicle was returning, the youth fell down on the road at Bagber area and he came under the wheel of another vehicle.
As soon as the news spread, a deep pall of gloom descended over the entire area amid Eid celebration.
The other youth- Prasenjit Das (25), resident of Pulinpur area in Teliamura, died in another road mishap on the national highway near Koroilang petrol pump. The youth was riding a motorcycle. He died after an oil tanker crashed into the motorcycle.
On the other hand, the TTAADC chairman, escorted by the TSR personnel, was going to Kanchanpur. When the convoy reached near the Thermal Power Project at Salkakami area of Barmura under Teliamura sub-division, the escort vehicle had a collision with a passenger bus which was coming from the opposite direction.
Four TSR personnel who were in the vehicle along with the driver were injured in the accident. They all were taken to Teliamura primary health centre.
Speaking to the media, Debbarma said his vehicle had a narrow escape in the accident. He said, the accident could be averted following the presence of mind of the driver.
Meanwhile, in a separate road mishap, three persons were injured after a tipper truck dashed an auto-rickshaw near Ishan Chandra Nagar petrol pump in Belonia of South Tripura district.
The auto driver and two passengers were injured in the accident. They were immediately shifted to Belonia sub-divisional hospital where the attending medical officer referred one seriously injured person to Agartala’s GBP hospital.
