Soon after Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb ordered police to immediately arrest the culprits who attacked Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman’s PSO and driver three persons were arrested by the police and produced before the court. The trio were then sent judicial custody by the Court.

Snehasis Lahiri, Bappa Nandi and Abdul Sahid were picked up from various parts of the city in a day long hunt said Subrata Chakrabarty, Oficer-in-Charge of West Agartala police station.

He said hunt is on nab the other persons involved the incident.

Earlier, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb talked to the Director General of Police soon after the incident and passed an instruction for taking stern action against the culprits involved in the attack.

A group of violent youths attacked Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman’s PSO and driver on Sunday morning. The bike borne miscreants also snatched away the service pistol of the PSO of Roy Barman. The attack was committed when the former minister went to consult Senior Lawyer Samik Deb at his Ramnagar residence.

Roy Barman alleged that the miscreants were all BJP activists and they wanted to attack him. Since Roy Barman was inside the house , he escaped but the miscreants severely assaulted his PSO and driver. The driver was sent to hospital and the PSO lodged a complaint with the West Agartala Police station.

Roy Barman said there were about 50- 60 youths.

“We were inside the house and when we heard the screaming, we came out and saw the miscreants were mercilessly assaulting a youth, Roy Barman’s driver”, said Deb after the incident.

West Agartala Officer Incharge Subrata Chakrabarty rushed to the spot and adequate security arrangements were made in front of Deb’s residence.

Roy Barman said since the house did have CCTV arrangements identification of the assailants could be easily ascertained. He alleged total collapse of law and order situation in the state and demanded that the miscreants be arrested forthwith.

Soon after the incident some advocates and political leaders also went to the house of Deb.

A police officer on condition of anonymity said all steps would taken to arrest the attackers. Since the service revolver of the PSO was also taken away the incident thus took far more serious turn and not only a case of assault.
