The Twipra Students Federation (TSF), an indigenous students’ organization in Tripura, has decided to withdraw its protest over the Kokborok script issue following a meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday. The student body had been blocking national highways since March 21, demanding the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborok language.
On Saturday, TSF had announced plans to continue its protest in Agartala on Monday but expressed willingness to engage in discussions with the Chief Minister. After a detailed meeting at the CM’s official residence, TSF General Secretary Hamalu Jamatia stated that the organization’s demands were acknowledged as genuine by the Chief Minister.
“He understands the difficulties faced by students and the indigenous community. He assured us that he would discuss the issue with higher authorities and work towards a resolution,” Jamatia said.
Following this assurance, TSF decided to withdraw its protest for the time being. The students’ body expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for initiating the discussions and showing commitment to resolving the matter.
The TSF’s movement aligns with the broader vision of “Ek Tripura, Viksit Tripura,” aiming for the holistic development of the state. The assurance from the Chief Minister has brought temporary relief to the situation, with all eyes now on the government’s next steps to address the demands of the indigenous community.
