President Trump condemned Russia’s deadly strikes on Kyiv, urging Vladimir Putin to “STOP” in a Truth Social post. As the largest attack on the Ukrainian capital this year unfolds, Trump’s tone marks a significant shift in U.S. policy and pressure toward achieving a ceasefire in the ongoing war.

President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a stern message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, condemning the latest Russian strikes on Kyiv. The attack, reportedly the largest on the Ukrainian capital this year, killed nine people and injured over a hundred, further escalating tensions in the region.

Taking to his platform, Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5,000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!”

The statement marks a notable departure from Trump’s previous approach. Until now, he has consistently refrained from criticizing the Russian leader, often emphasizing his personal rapport with Putin. Instead, Trump has been more critical of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, especially over Ukraine’s firm stance on Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

Despite the Biden administration’s unwavering military and financial support for Ukraine over the past three years, President Trump has signaled a different strategy since taking office. His administration has made it clear that U.S. support will be conditional, with Trump seeking rare earth mineral access in Ukraine and pressing both sides to agree to a peace settlement.

While President Zelenskyy has agreed to Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan, Moscow has shown little interest in halting its aggression. Ukrainian officials say that for the past 44 days—since accepting the U.S.-brokered ceasefire—Russia has continued its attacks unabated.

On Thursday, Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s call for a complete cessation of hostilities. “It has been 44 days since Ukraine agreed to a full ceasefire and a halt to strikes. This was a proposal from the United States. And it has been 44 days of Russia continuing to kill our people and evading tough pressure and accountability for its actions,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He added that the latest assault involved nearly 70 missiles, including ballistic types, and about 150 attack drones.

Trump’s public rebuke of Putin underscores the growing frustration within his administration over Russia’s refusal to engage meaningfully in peace negotiations. While efforts to bring both sides to the table continue, the U.S. president’s strong words indicate that the situation may soon demand a tougher American response.

As the war drags on with mounting casualties and no clear resolution in sight, Trump’s message signals that diplomatic patience may be wearing thin, even among those who previously advocated a softer approach toward Moscow.
