All-party meeting led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh ends with unanimous condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack. Leaders across parties support government actions against Pakistan and call for unity and peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
In response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which occurred on April 22 and claimed the lives of over 20 unarmed civilians, an all-party meeting was convened on Thursday under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The meeting served as a significant platform where leaders from across the political spectrum came together to express unanimous condemnation of the incident and reinforce national solidarity.
The meeting commenced with a solemn two-minute silence in honor of the innocent victims, most of whom were tourists. It was a symbolic gesture that underscored the gravity of the tragedy and the nation’s collective grief.
Following the meeting, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju described the discussions as “very positive,” emphasizing that all leaders stood united in support of the Centre’s decisive actions against Pakistan. Rijiju reiterated the government’s unwavering stance on terrorism, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s zero-tolerance policy, which received full backing from all participating parties.
Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also extended full support to the government, stating, “We have made it clear that whatever action the government takes in this matter, the Opposition will support it.” His remarks underscored a rare moment of political consensus during a time of national crisis.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called for sustained and concrete measures to restore peace in the region, stressing the necessity for all parties to cooperate in preventing further attacks. His appeal was echoed by other prominent leaders at the meeting.
Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav urged the media and social media platforms to act responsibly and avoid creating narratives of division during such critical times. Meanwhile, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi pointed out Pakistan’s long-standing violations of UN Security Council resolutions regarding the funding of terrorism.
The two-hour-long meeting concluded with a firm expression of unity and determination. The Centre informed all parties that swift and strict actions had already been taken against Pakistan to ensure such heinous acts do not happen again.
This meeting, held amid a wave of public outrage, sends a powerful message across the nation: regardless of political affiliations, India stands united in the face of terrorism. It reflects the resolve of the country’s leadership to safeguard national security and maintain peace.
