‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign Sets the Tone
The Independence Day festivities began on August 13 with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, in which Chief Minister Manik Saha, accompanied by State BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, distributed national flags across Agartala. Special emphasis was placed on reaching children and women, encouraging them to proudly hoist the tricolour at their homes.

Speaking during the campaign, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of understanding the history and symbolism of the national flag, as well as remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters. He described the initiative as a way to instil patriotism in every household, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ program.
“This movement is not just about hoisting the flag; it is about igniting the spirit of patriotism in every heart,” said Saha. He also took to social media to express pride in the campaign, urging citizens to honour martyrs and safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.
Cleanliness Drives and Sports Events
On August 14, Agartala will hold a city-wide cleanliness campaign, covering Assam Rifles Ground, the Circuit House statue area, Gandhi Smriti Soudh, and other important locations. Similar drives will be conducted in all government offices, educational institutions, and public buildings.
That morning, the celebrations will also feature an open cross-country race for both men and women, starting at 6:00 AM from Umakanta Academy premises, promoting health and unity among citizens.
Culmination of a Month of Pride
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which began on August 2, has been observed across Tripura in three phases, leading up to the main Independence Day events. Organised under the Ministry of Culture, the campaign aims to strengthen citizens’ emotional connection to the tricolour and the nation’s history.
