Tripura signs MoU with World Skill Center to launch beauty and wellness training hub in Agartala, aiming to boost women employment, global skill standards, and entrepreneurship opportunities through industry-driven vocational education and international certification programs.

In a step toward strengthening skill development and employment opportunities, the state of Tripura has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Skill Center in Bhubaneswar. The collaboration aims to establish a state-of-the-art Beauty and Wellness Training Center at the Women’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Agartala, marking a major push toward job-oriented education in the Northeast.

The initiative is designed to replicate the successful skill development model implemented in Odisha, where industry-focused training has significantly enhanced employability among youth. By adapting this model, Tripura seeks to equip its young population with practical, job-ready skills aligned with current industry demands.

The World Skill Center, supported by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Odisha, will serve as the technical partner in this collaboration. Its role will include designing a modern curriculum, training instructors, and ensuring that the teaching methodologies meet global standards. This comprehensive approach is expected to raise the quality of vocational education in the state.

Officials highlighted that the beauty and wellness sector is witnessing rapid growth both in India and internationally. With increasing demand for skilled professionals in salons, spas, wellness centers, and the global beauty industry, the training center will focus on providing advanced certifications to female students. This move is expected to enhance their employability not just within India but also in overseas markets.

The MoU signing ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officials from both Tripura and Odisha, who described the partnership as a milestone for regional development. According to officials from the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in Tripura, the initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of transforming itself into a hub for skilled manpower.

“This collaboration is a step toward bridging the gap between traditional education and industry requirements,” an official noted. “By focusing on hands-on training and internationally recognized standards, we aim to create a workforce that meets real-world demands.”

A key feature of the project is its emphasis on sustainability. Once the initial phase is completed, local trainers will be equipped to independently maintain high training standards, reducing reliance on external expertise. This ensures long-term impact and scalability of the program.

The center will also play a crucial role in empowering women in the Northeast by providing them with access to high-quality vocational training. With modern infrastructure and advanced learning tools, the institute aims to foster entrepreneurship among trainees, encouraging them to start their own ventures in the beauty and wellness sector.

Experts believe that such targeted initiatives can significantly reduce unemployment and promote inclusive growth in the region. By aligning education with market needs, Tripura is positioning itself as a forward-looking state committed to economic development through skill enhancement.

As the project moves forward, it is expected to open new avenues for youth, particularly women, enabling them to achieve financial independence and contribute to the state’s economy. The collaboration stands as a model for other states aiming to modernize their skill development ecosystems and create globally competitive workforces.
