Tripura Sets Ambitious Goal to Raise Per Capita Income to $23,000 by 2047 Under Viksit Bharat Vision
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the state aims to boost its per capita income from the current $2,300 to an ambitious $23,000 by the year 2047. Dr. Saha made this announcement during his address at the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog held in New Delhi on Saturday, which was chaired by the Prime Minister and attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Health Minister J.P. Nadda.

A Vision for 2047: Roadmap to a Developed Tripura
Dr. Saha outlined a comprehensive strategy to realize this economic transformation, grounded in nine key growth enablers and five pillars of governance. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state’s development model integrates Tripura’s unique socio-economic advantages with national development goals.
“Our focus lies in harnessing Tripura’s strengths—medical wellness, eco-tourism, information technology, a knowledge-based economy, resilient agriculture, rich history, cultural heritage, and sports,” said Dr. Saha. “We project that these sectors will drive sustained economic growth and enable us to multiply our per capita income tenfold by 2047.”

Nine Key Growth Enablers
To support the projected 12% annual growth rate over the next two decades, the state government has identified nine core enablers:
-
A strong agriculture base
-
High literacy levels
-
Rich tourism assets
-
Abundant natural resources
-
A thriving forest economy
-
Improved infrastructure
-
Strategic geographic location
-
An expanding tax base
-
Energy surplus capacity
“These foundational strengths provide the backbone for a growth-oriented policy approach,” Dr. Saha noted.

Five Pillars of Governance
To ensure these enablers translate into real outcomes, the government has also institutionalized reforms under five pillars of governance:
-
Policy Reforms
-
Institution Building
-
Capacity Building
-
Business Reforms and Reduction of Compliance Burden
-
Digital Governance
Tripura has already taken steps in this direction. For instance, the eOffice system has been implemented from the level of the State Cabinet down to Gram Panchayats, enhancing efficiency and transparency in governance.
Strategic Planning and Consultation
Dr. Saha revealed that a year-long consultation process involving NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), academic experts, business leaders, civil society members, and government officials led to the formulation of a detailed Strategic Roadmap.
“This collaborative effort has yielded a comprehensive development blueprint aimed at creating an ‘Unnato and Shreshtho Tripura’—a developed and great Tripura that is ready for the future,” he said.

Green Economy and Renewable Energy
In line with national goals for sustainable development, Tripura is taking bold steps in building a green economy. The Chief Minister announced that the state is working to develop a Green Economy Policy Framework using a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, with an emphasis on inclusion—particularly of youth and women.
Tripura is also promoting green entrepreneurship through a dedicated Green Start-Up Ecosystem and has initiated work on an 800 MW pumped storage project to support its renewable energy ambitions.
Strengthening the MSME and SHG Ecosystem
Tripura’s economy is further supported by a vibrant base of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). As of now, the state hosts:
-
86,117 MSMEs
-
60,318 SHGs comprising 549,559 members
-
94,723 “Lakhpati Didis”—women who have achieved significant economic self-reliance
Dr. Saha noted that these grassroots economic structures play a vital role in empowering communities and creating inclusive growth.
Commendation for Operation Sindoor
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister congratulated Prime Minister Modi and the Indian armed forces for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, a recent strategic mission that has garnered national attention
