Tripura received national recognition at GeM Foundation Day for sustained adoption of the Government e-Marketplace, highlighting the state’s commitment to transparent, efficient and technology-driven public procurement. The honour reflects Tripura’s growing use of digital governance tools to improve accountability, efficiency and value in government spending.

Tripura has earned national recognition for its sustained adoption of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), receiving a special felicitation at the platform’s 10th Foundation Day celebration held at Bharat Mandapam.

The State was honoured under the “GeM Sustained Adoption” category, recognising its consistent efforts to promote digital, transparent and technology-driven procurement practices across government departments. The recognition highlights Tripura’s growing commitment to using digital platforms to improve efficiency and accountability in public administration.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal presented the felicitation to Dr. Akinchan Sarkar, Additional Secretary in Tripura’s Finance Department, who represented the State at the national-level ceremony.

The 10th Foundation Day event brought together senior officials from the Central Government, State administrations and various departments involved in public procurement and digital governance. Among those present were Rajesh Agarwal, Secretary, Department of Commerce; S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Telecommunication; and GeM CEO Maher Kumar, along with representatives from several Central and State departments.

Tripura’s recognition comes against the backdrop of the State’s sustained efforts to expand the use of GeM among government offices. Departments and government buyers have increasingly relied on the digital procurement platform to streamline purchasing procedures, enhance transparency and ensure better value for public expenditure.

The Government e-Marketplace has emerged as an important tool for government procurement by providing a digital platform through which public organisations can purchase goods and services. Tripura’s continued adoption of the system demonstrates the State’s efforts to integrate technology into routine administrative processes.

Officials said the State remains committed to further expanding GeM adoption across government departments. The focus is expected to remain on strengthening transparency, improving procurement efficiency and promoting greater accountability in public spending.

The national recognition also places Tripura among the States demonstrating sustained progress in digital governance. The achievement is significant as governments across the country increasingly focus on technology-based administrative reforms to make public services more efficient and transparent.

For Tripura, the GeM felicitation represents another milestone in its efforts to align governance practices with national standards. The State’s sustained use of the digital procurement platform reflects a broader push towards modernising administration and ensuring that technology contributes meaningfully to development and public service delivery.

The recognition at GeM’s 10th Foundation Day therefore serves not only as an appreciation of Tripura’s existing efforts but also as encouragement to deepen digital procurement practices across the State.
