In order to ensure reduced emission of pollutants due to funerals at Battala crematorium, Agartala Municipal Corporation installed a high-tech purpose built furnace on Wednesday. Urban Development Minister Santana Chakma along with AMC Mayor Deepak Majumder inaugurated the new furnace installed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh 40 thousand.
Speaking to the media persons, Majumder said, “the sole purpose of the modernization bid is to control pollution. With this new initiative there will be no foul smell pervading the surrounding areas and most importantly, the process of final rites will become hundred percent eco-friendly”.
Urban Development Minister Santana Chakma said, “the state government is working hard to make sure better services for the people residing in urban areas. The new furnace installed here makes the process of burning funeral pyres time effective”.
Sources in the urban development department said, efforts are afoot to install such furnaces at Mohanpur and Chinahihani crematoriums as well. “Gradually all the fire-wood based crematoriums will be transformed into smart and green energy propelled facilities”, a source in the Urban Development department said.
