Five missing minor girls from Kanchanpur were rescued by Tripura Police from a hotel on Agartala’s Airport Road. Authorities launched a swift operation following intelligence inputs. Investigation is underway to determine circumstances of their disappearance.

Five minor girls who had gone missing from the Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura were rescued by police on Sunday from a hotel located along VIP Road under the Airport Police Station area in Agartala, officials confirmed.

According to police sources, the rescue operation was carried out at Hotel Debraj in the Natunnagar area following specific intelligence inputs. Acting swiftly on the information, a team from the Airport Police Station conducted a search operation and recovered the minors from the hotel premises. The girls were subsequently brought to the Airport Police Station for preliminary questioning and verification.

Police officials stated that the rescued girls are all minors and were reportedly residents of Kanchanpur subdivision. Initial inquiries revealed that all five girls were inmates of the same girls’ hostel, raising serious concerns regarding their safety, movement, and possible exploitation.

Officer-in-Charge of Kanchanpur Police Station, Srikanta Rudrapal, confirmed that missing complaints had been lodged earlier regarding the disappearance of hostel students from the area. “We had registered a missing diary concerning three minor girls from Kanchanpur who went missing earlier. Later, information was shared that five minor girls were rescued from a hotel in Agartala by the Airport Police. After completing the necessary formalities, the girls will be handed over to Kanchanpur Police for further investigation,” he said.

Rudrapal added that the matter is being treated with seriousness due to the age of the victims and the circumstances under which they were found. The police will examine how the minors traveled from Kanchanpur to Agartala, who facilitated their movement, and whether any individual or network was involved.

Speaking on the development, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station, Abhijit Mandal, said that coordination between police stations played a key role in locating the girls. “We received information from Kanchanpur Police Station regarding missing complaints involving five minor girls. Using location tracking and intelligence inputs, it was confirmed that the girls were staying at a hotel in the Airport Police Station jurisdiction,” Mandal stated.

During preliminary questioning, the girls reportedly told police that they had come to Agartala to visit the city. However, officials clarified that further counseling and detailed inquiry would be conducted to verify their statements and assess whether any coercion, trafficking attempt, or negligence was involved.

Child protection protocols were followed during the rescue and questioning process. The minors were kept under police supervision and later handed over to officials of Kanchanpur Police Station for continuation of the investigation. Authorities are also expected to inform the Child Welfare Committee and take steps in accordance with juvenile protection laws.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of hostel students and minors traveling without guardians. Police officials urged parents, hostel authorities, and institutions to remain vigilant and promptly report any unusual absence of children to prevent such incidents.

Further investigation is ongoing.
