The Tripura Police, has launched an awareness program to discuss and implement three newly introduced criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. These laws came into effect nationwide on Monday, July 1.
West Tripura District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar K. stated that the Tripura Police is “fully geared up” in terms of technology, capacity building, and awareness generation to enforce these new laws. The West Agartala Police Station, in collaboration with the West Agartala Women’s Police Station, organized an elaborate awareness session to educate both the police force and the public about these legislative changes.
Addressing the press, SP Kiran Kumar emphasized, “Tripura Police is prepared to implement the new laws that took effect today. We are conducting training sessions for police personnel statewide and holding awareness programs to ensure that both the police and the general public understand these new laws.”
He highlighted that the new criminal laws aim to bring a modern system of justice, incorporating features such as Zero FIR, online registration of complaints, and summonses via SMS. “The evidence collection process at crime scenes will now be mandatorily videographed to prevent tampering,” he added.
Tripura Home Secretary PK Chakravarty also addressed the media, stating, “The state government has taken all possible steps to implement these criminal laws. This move will bring modernization in the judiciary, ensure speedy justice, and safeguard the interests of victims.”
