Tripura Police seized drugs worth ₹20 crore in 2025 and recorded a 30% drop in road accident fatalities. DGP Anurag commended Khowai police and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the ‘Nasha Mukta Tripura’ mission during his district visit and review of law and order performance.

In a significant development underscoring Tripura Police’s success in maintaining law and order, Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan Anurag announced a major achievement in the fight against narcotics and road traffic fatalities. During his visit to Khowai district, the DGP revealed that drugs worth ₹20 crore have been seized so far this year, and the state has witnessed a remarkable 30% decline in deaths caused by road traffic accidents (RTAs).

DGP Anurag chaired a high-level review meeting with district police officials to evaluate the law and order situation, assess operational effectiveness, and motivate officers posted in the area. As part of his itinerary, he visited the headquarters of two battalions of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) stationed in Khowai and interacted with the troopers deployed there.

Law and Order in Khowai: A Positive Outlook

Speaking to the media, the DGP lauded the police personnel in Khowai district for their consistent and commendable performance. “Today, I am here in the Khowai district to review the situation. The whole state police administration has done a great job curbing crime and maintaining law and order. At the same time, the Khowai district police is also doing a good job,” he said.

The visit forms part of a broader state-level review strategy to strengthen grassroots-level policing and ensure public safety amid increasing challenges.

Sharp Decline in Road Accident Deaths

One of the key highlights of the DGP’s media briefing was the notable decrease in road fatalities in the state. He revealed that road traffic accidents had claimed 126 lives in Tripura till June last year, while this year, only 88 fatalities had been reported over the same period—a substantial 30% drop.

“This reduction is not incidental but a result of sustained efforts in traffic monitoring, awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement of traffic norms, and coordinated action at various levels,” the DGP said. He emphasized that preventing road accidents remains a top priority for the Tripura Police.

Crackdown on Drugs: ₹20 Crore Seized This Year

Turning to the state’s performance in curbing drug trafficking under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the DGP shared impressive statistics. “Last year, we seized around 18.6 lakh tablets while this year we have already seized 18 lakh tablets. Last year’s total seizure value stood at ₹18 crore. On the other hand, this year’s seizure value has touched the ₹20 crore mark,” he said.

This marks an over 10% increase in the value of seizures year-on-year, signaling intensified police efforts and enhanced surveillance. Anurag emphasized that the upward trend in drug seizures was an indicator of proactive policing and successful disruption of the narcotics supply chain.

‘Nasha Mukta Tripura’ Campaign in Full Swing

When asked about the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, DGP Anurag reaffirmed the Tripura Police’s commitment to the ‘Nasha Mukta Tripura’ mission. “The Chief Minister has given the call for a drug-free Tripura, and all units of the Tripura Police have been working tirelessly to ensure that the drug menace can be controlled,” he said.

Under this campaign, the police have intensified raids, launched awareness campaigns in schools and colleges, and strengthened their intelligence network. The aim is to not only catch traffickers but also prevent vulnerable sections, especially youth, from falling into the trap of addiction.
