Abhoy Mission with support from Sense International India organized the online State Advocacy Meeting for deaf blind inclusion on Friday. The meeting aimed to converge with initiatives of relevant State Government Departments, and civil society organizations for inclusion of persons with deaf blindness, said a press communiqué issued by the Mission. Parents, special educators and persons with deaf blindness interacted with government officials on a common platform to find solution for the rehabilitation needs of persons with deaf blindness. The program commenced with condolence observation of late Shyamal Deb, the founder President of Abhoy MIssion .
In Key note address, Akhil Paul, Executive Director of Sense International India, recalled the memory of late Shyamal Deb. He also gave an account of partnership between Sense International India and ABHOY MISSION. Achintam Kilikder, Deputy Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Tripura, stated that role of NGOs in the field of empowerment of individuals with disabilities is growing in Tripura State. He also mentioned about limited availability of Special Educators, professionals and fund for the disability area in the State. He hailed the contribution of Abhoy MIssion in the field of Disability for last 33 years. He pledged for help, cooperation from State Government as well as Social Welfare Department to the project for deaf blind and MSI persons. , Sabhadhipati of Paschim Tripura Zila Parishad also participated in the meeting.
Sebabrata De, Assistant Director I/C of National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled (NCSC-DA) narrated facilities being provided by their Institution for the purpose of vocational training. State Inclusive Education(I/E) Coordinator, Govt. of Tripura, took part in the meeting. Three District I/ E Coordinators briefed the facilities being provided to the children with disabilities enrolled in school. Delegates from District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) Dhalai, District Inspectorate of Social Education (DISE) Khowai and Dhalai District participated in the meeting.

Parents and family members raised their concerns before different Government officials. Among the notable issues, raised by the parents, were proper marketing of creative products made by the adult and young adult deafblinds and their financial security in future, financial support to establish an enterprise in the name of adults suffering from deaf blindness with severe mental retardation, proper certification of disabilities, and realization of such children’s right for education in inclusive set up.

Prior to this meeting, an online State Network Meeting was held by ABHOY MISSION with support from Sense International India on the August 26. The meeting aimed to strengthen local Networks, specially the Network of parents and family members for inclusion of persons with deaf blindness. Parents, family members, Deafblind State Centre Team and officials of Abhoy MIssion and Sense International India interacted with each other in the meeting.
