Apart from damage to homes, the heavy rainfall has triggered incidents of tree falls, particularly in Agartala and surrounding areas. Disaster management teams, including Civil Defence volunteers, have been deployed for immediate clearance operations and to maintain accessibility along key routes. However, road infrastructure remains under stress. Several stretches of national highways have suffered damage, and the ongoing construction work in certain areas has worsened the situation, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has taken proactive measures by engaging with central authorities to address the emerging crisis. On Friday, he held a telephonic discussion with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, seeking urgent intervention in repairing the damaged highways. The Union Minister has reportedly assured quick action to restore road connectivity.
To coordinate the response on the ground, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar personally visited low-lying and flood-prone areas on Friday to assess the situation. According to a statement from the DM’s official social media handle, all necessary preparedness measures are in place, and rescue teams are on standby. “Our top priority is public safety,” read the update, underlining the administration’s readiness to tackle emergencies.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of continued heavy rainfall in Tripura until June 2. Agartala alone received 121.6 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8:30 AM on Friday. The IMD’s red alert for North Tripura and Unakoti warns of “heavy to very heavy rainfall (7–20 cm) at a few places, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm).” The Howrah River, among others, is witnessing a rising water level, adding to concerns of flash floods.

He emphasized the importance of preparedness and urged the public to cooperate with authorities.
