Tripura grapples with a severe petrol and diesel shortage following train restrictions imposed by the NF Railway due to a goods train derailment in the Lumding division of Assam, official sources reported.

According to Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De, the disruption in train services between Jatinga-Lumpur and New Harangajao stations began on April 25 following the derailment of a freight train engine.

The Additional Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department issued a notification on May 1, imposing restrictions on fuel purchases. Individuals are now limited to purchasing two liters of petrol per day for bikes, and car owners are restricted to three liters per day.

Reports indicate that many petrol pumps in the state have run dry due to a lack of fuel supply.

Fortunately, NF Railway sources have confirmed that the situation is gradually returning to normalcy, with passenger trains resuming operations. However, it is anticipated that it will take an additional two days for goods trains to fully resume service.
