The first-ever three-day Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 commenced at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, marking a major milestone in promoting Tripura’s internationally acclaimed GI-tagged Queen Pineapple. The festival, being held from June 27 to June 29, aims to showcase the state’s premium fruit, strengthen market linkages, attract investments, and create new export opportunities for pineapple growers.

The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, along with senior government officials, exporters, entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers, and representatives from the agricultural sector.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed happiness at participating in the inaugural programme and described the festival as an important initiative to project Tripura’s rich agricultural heritage before the world. He said the three-day festival would not only celebrate the state’s horticultural excellence but also showcase the dedication, hard work, and immense potential of Tripura’s pineapple farmers.

Dr. Saha stated that the government remains committed to ensuring prosperity for farmers while expanding the international market for the world-famous Queen Pineapple. He urged all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the agricultural economy and establish Tripura as a leading supplier of premium pineapples in global markets.

A significant highlight of the inaugural programme was the special message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, delivered on the occasion of World Pineapple Day and read out by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. In his message, the Prime Minister placed special emphasis on Tripura’s renowned Queen Pineapple, describing it as a symbol of the state’s rich horticultural heritage.

Prime Minister Modi noted that Tripura is blessed with abundant natural resources and is widely recognised for its high-quality horticultural produce. He said the Queen Pineapple, known for its unique sweetness and distinctive aroma resulting from the state’s favourable natural conditions, is a matter of pride for the people of Tripura. He further observed that the granting of the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to the fruit represents an important recognition of the state’s agricultural excellence.

The Prime Minister also praised the Global Pineapple Festival for bringing together farmers, exporters, entrepreneurs, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers on a common platform. According to him, such collaboration would strengthen agricultural value chains, promote innovation, expand access to domestic and international markets, and create better livelihood opportunities for farmers.

Expressing confidence in the festival’s long-term impact, Prime Minister Modi said the initiative would significantly enhance the international recognition of Tripura’s Queen Pineapple, open new avenues for trade and investment, and contribute to the economic prosperity of farmers across the state.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the Central Government’s vision of “Act East, Act Fast and Act First”, stating that over the past twelve years, sustained efforts have been made to unlock the vast potential of Northeast India by building upon its natural resources, cultural richness, and agricultural strengths. He remarked that initiatives like the Global Pineapple Festival reflect the government’s commitment to making the unique strengths of the Northeast an integral part of India’s growth story.
