The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Wednesday to mark his 155th birth anniversary. The Congress leaders laid wreaths at a portrait of the Father of the Nation during a solemn ceremony.
Led by TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha, a series of events took place to honor Gandhi’s legacy, including flag hoisting and a non-violence march to Gandhighat, Agartala. Prominent leaders such as MLA Sudip Roy Barman and former TPCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas, along with representatives of various frontal organizations, participated in the event.
During the ceremony, Saha emphasized Gandhi’s principles of non-violence and truth, highlighting their relevance in today’s political climate. He expressed concerns over the current state of democracy in India under the BJP-led government.
“Mahatma Gandhi’s struggle was to free India and its people from colonial rule, and protect the rights of citizens. Unfortunately, the BJP-led government has undermined those hard-earned freedoms,” said Saha. He further accused the government of depriving citizens of their democratic rights, drawing parallels between the present administration and British colonial rule.
Saha urged citizens to follow Gandhi’s ideals and join the Indian National Congress to safeguard democracy and create a better future for India.
The TPCC concluded the event with a call to uphold Gandhi’s vision for a free, just, and inclusive nation.
