Tripura CM Manik Saha condemned Congress and RJD for abusive slogans against PM Modi’s late mother in Bihar’s Darbhanga. Calling it an attack on dignity and culture, he demanded apologies from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, stressing that civilised society cannot tolerate such vulgarity in politics.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday strongly condemned the use of abusive and offensive slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, Heeraben Modi, during the Mahagathbandhan’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar’s Darbhanga. The remarks, allegedly made by Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers, have sparked sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with CM Saha calling the act a disgrace to civilised political discourse.
Speaking after inaugurating the Vivekananda Township projects at Kaman Chowmuhani in Agartala, the Tripura Chief Minister expressed his outrage. “Such abusive and offensive sloganeering against a woman who has passed away is unimaginable. A civilised society cannot tolerate such a mindset,” he said.
Saha, who had pursued his dental studies in Patna and spent several years in Bihar, said that the people of the state would reject leaders who endorse or allow such indecency. “I was earlier in Bihar for many years. I think the people of Bihar will reject these people for their abusive and offensive sloganeering by the Congress,” he told the media.
The Chief Minister stressed that political battles and elections are a routine part of democracy, but lowering the discourse to personal attacks on deceased family members crosses all limits. “Elections will be held often everywhere, but such abusive sloganeering crossed all limits ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections,” he said.
“Modi’s Rise Never Accepted by Opposition”
CM Saha also highlighted how Narendra Modi’s journey from a tea-seller to Prime Minister in 2014 changed India’s political landscape. He remarked that Modi’s humble background and meteoric rise were never accepted by opposition parties like the Congress and RJD.
“A Chaiwala (tea-seller) and a man from a poor family became the Prime Minister of India. This was not tolerated by the Congress, RJD, and other opposition parties. Not only people of Bihar, but people of the entire country would not tolerate such abusive and offensive comments,” he said.
According to Saha, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav encouraged their party workers to indulge in such disgraceful sloganeering. “The Congress and RJD leaders provoked their party workers to give such abusive and offensive slogans,” he alleged.
Demand for Apology
The Tripura Chief Minister demanded an unconditional apology from both the Congress and RJD for their involvement in this incident. He stressed that the people of Tripura also stand united in condemning such behavior. “The people of Tripura also vehemently condemn such abusive and offensive sloganeering by Congress and RJD against the Prime Minister’s late mother,” he stated.
Highlighting the cultural values of Bihar, Saha said, “I know the culture of Bihar as I was there for some years. Bihar has a tradition of respect and dignity, and this kind of vulgar sloganeering does not reflect the ethos of the state.”
Saha’s personal connection to Bihar—having completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the Government Dental College in Patna where he ranked fourth in the university—gave weight to his criticism.
Social Media Reaction
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), CM Saha expressed his dismay at the incident. “Shocked & appalled by the indecent language used against PM Narendra Modi Ji’s late mother from the platform of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav’s journey. Such depravity and vulgarity have no place in politics. Their desperation knows no bounds, but the people of Bihar will never forgive this shameful act,” he wrote.
He further added, “This level of disrespect and hatred is unacceptable in public discourse. Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav must apologise for their role in this shameful incident. I have been in Bihar for many years. I know Bihar as a state. The state believes in respecting each other. The people of Bihar deserve respect and dignity, not insults and vulgarity from leaders who claim to represent them.”

The controversy has deepened political tensions ahead of the Bihar elections, with the BJP accusing opposition parties of resorting to indecent tactics in desperation. As the debate grows, all eyes remain on how Congress and RJD respond to demands for an apology.
