Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the socio-economic and educational upliftment of the Janajati community, highlighting major welfare initiatives under PM Modi’s vision to empower tribal populations through education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday reiterated that the state government has placed the highest priority on the socio-economic development and educational advancement of the Janajati (tribal) community, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive and equitable growth.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the Maharani Tulsibati Welfare Trust in Agartala to honor distinguished personalities from various Janajati communities on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, Dr. Saha said that the state is committed to advancing tribal welfare through targeted interventions in education, healthcare, skill development, and infrastructure.

“The state government is committed to improving the quality of education and overall welfare of Janajati children. Following the path shown by the Prime Minister, special focus has been laid on ensuring socio-economic upliftment through education, healthcare, and infrastructure development,” Dr. Saha said.

Government Initiatives for Janajati Empowerment

Highlighting major achievements, Dr. Saha mentioned that several welfare projects have been initiated under the Pradhan Mantri Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, aimed at improving living standards and empowering Janajati families.

“More than ₹23 crore has already been spent under this project, directly benefitting over 9,300 people. In addition, the government is extending one-time financial assistance to Janajati students who wish to pursue higher education outside the state,” he informed.

The Chief Minister also said that 170 hostel wardens have been appointed in Janajati hostels across Tripura, ensuring better supervision and student support. Furthermore, ₹19 crore has been sanctioned for installing solar power systems in nearly 50 tribal hostels to promote renewable energy and sustainable living conditions.

Support for Farmers and Grassroots Development

Dr. Saha said that the government is extending financial aid to jute farmers and implementing multiple development programs through the External Aided Fund to strengthen Janajati livelihoods. He added that these measures reflect the government’s commitment to holistic and sustainable tribal development.

“The government’s goal is not only to improve living conditions but also to empower the community to contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress. Every project is designed to ensure long-term benefits,” he said.

Rise in Representation and Progress

Recalling the progress made by the community, Dr. Saha noted that there was a time when only a handful of Janajati officers served in the Tripura Civil Service (TCS), Tripura Police Service (TPS), Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and Tripura Forest Service (TFS) cadres.

“Today, the community has made remarkable progress and is contributing significantly in every field, from governance to education and public service. This transformation stands as a testament to the collective will and resilience of our Janajati brothers and sisters,” Dr. Saha stated.

Addressing Drug Abuse and Health Awareness

The Chief Minister also emphasized the government’s focus on tackling drug abuse and raising awareness about HIV/AIDS among the youth, particularly in rural and tribal areas.

“A detailed discussion was held in the Assembly with MLAs to intensify awareness drives across the state. Officers must also take responsibility to sensitise people about the ill effects of drugs and ensure that preventive measures reach the grassroots,” he said.

Vision for Model Villages

Dr. Saha further said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, special emphasis is being laid on transforming aspirational tribal villages into model villages with improved connectivity, better education, and access to modern healthcare.

“Our vision is to ensure that every Janajati family benefits from development. The government is taking all necessary steps to bring inclusive growth to every corner of Tripura,” the Chief Minister said.

The event was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, District Magistrate of West Tripura Vishal Kumar, and Bipin Debbarma of the Maharani Tulsibati Welfare Trust, among others. Several dignitaries lauded the government’s efforts and expressed hope that the ongoing initiatives would continue to uplift tribal communities across the state.

Towards an Inclusive Future

The Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration highlighted Tripura’s steady progress toward inclusive governance and social justice. The Chief Minister’s address reflected the government’s clear intention to not only improve living standards but also build an empowered, educated, and self-reliant tribal population in the state.
