Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha highlights strong interest from NRIs to invest in Tripura. Emphasizing education reforms, diaspora engagement, and the National Education Policy 2020, the state is poised for economic growth and educational excellence.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday took part in the Bhumi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony of the new building for Bapuji School, marking a significant step toward educational reforms in the state. During his address, Dr. Saha emphasized the Tripura government’s commitment to both improving education and engaging with the Tripura diaspora across the globe.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha highlighted the recent Probashi Tripura Summit, which saw an overwhelming response from people originally from Tripura but now residing outside India. “We expected around 70 participants, but 85 attended, all at their own expense,” he stated. These NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) are well established in various sectors and are eager to invest in the development of Tripura.
“They are closely working with industry leaders, and officials have been instructed to maintain regular communication to ensure these engagements translate into meaningful outcomes,” said the Chief Minister. He referred to these diaspora members as “valuable assets” of the state, stressing their emotional attachment to their homeland and their role in building a prosperous, self-sufficient Tripura.
Looking ahead, Dr. Saha revealed that the next edition of the Probashi Tripura Summit is expected to attract between 300 and 400 more participants. The government believes this expanded participation will play a pivotal role in accelerating the state’s growth and economic development.

On the education front, Dr. Saha spoke passionately about Tripura’s rich educational history. “In many parts of the state, people have voluntarily donated land for schools and educational institutions. These individuals are true patriots, contributing selflessly to society,” he said. He noted that Bapuji School itself was established on land donated by a respected individual, whose descendants were honored during the ceremony.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of education for the younger generation, especially the age group between 18 to 35 years, noting global demographic shifts have caused a shrinking youth population. “Investing in human resources through quality education and moral values is more important than ever,” he said, underscoring the need for moral science and deeper societal learning.
Dr. Saha also discussed the state’s educational framework, comparing various education boards like CBSE, ICSE, and TBSE. He highlighted that while CBSE offers a uniform curriculum and ICSE maintains a strong academic syllabus, the state board focuses on regional culture. Tripura has adopted a hybrid approach with CBSE-style education alongside international boards and open schooling options to reach working professionals, ensuring comprehensive and flexible learning opportunities.

Further, he praised the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for integrating India’s traditional wisdom with modern science and technology. Despite political opposition, NEP’s focus on vocational training, multidisciplinary courses, and flexible subject choices is expected to significantly reduce school dropout rates.
Dr. Saha also mentioned the digital transformation in education, emphasizing AI-driven learning tools to bridge gaps and prepare students for the future job market. “This holistic approach will empower Tripura’s youth and support the state’s vision of becoming a knowledge-based society,” he added.
The ceremony concluded with renewed hope for the state’s educational and economic progress, supported by the active involvement of Tripura’s diaspora and the government’s forward-thinking policies.
