Tripura BJP, led by CM Manik Saha and State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, held a crucial organisational meeting to discuss strategies and reports ahead of the 2026 TTAADC elections, amid talks on Tiprasa Accord implementation and alliance speculations.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura on Sunday convened a high-level meeting at the state party headquarters to review its organisational preparedness ahead of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections scheduled for early next year.

The meeting, chaired jointly by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, saw the participation of senior leaders, MLAs, district presidents, and heads of various frontal organisations. The discussions were centred around election strategies, party coordination, and grassroots-level feedback collected from across the state.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said, “The meeting was called to discuss the party’s strategy for the forthcoming elections. We have the TTAADC and local body elections next year. During the meeting, we exchanged views on key issues related to the elections and reviewed our preparedness.”

When asked about the possibility of an alliance with the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), Dr. Saha clarified, “We have discussed only about our party.”

Review of Organisational Feedback

Sources within the BJP revealed that the meeting primarily focused on the preliminary reports submitted by observers appointed for all 28 constituencies of the TTAADC. These observers were tasked with assessing the organisational strengths and weaknesses at the grassroots level by interacting with booth-level workers and local committees.

A senior BJP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The observers’ reports were reviewed in the meeting, but some areas remain unassessed due to communication issues. Therefore, the party has extended the deadline for submission of complete reports by another week. Once the final reports are compiled, a similar review meeting will be convened next week.”

BJP-TMP Coordination and Tiprasa Accord Context

Sunday’s meeting came on the heels of two consecutive closed-door discussions between Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma regarding the implementation of the ‘Tiprasa Accord’.

The accord, signed in March last year in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims at ensuring comprehensive socio-economic development for Tripura’s indigenous tribal communities.

When asked about these meetings, Dr. Saha stated, “We discussed the progress of the Tiprasa Accord implementation and the developmental aspects for tribal communities.”

TMP chief Debbarma described his meeting with Dr. Saha as “very positive,” asserting that cooperation between the TMP and BJP will continue for the welfare of Tripura’s tribal population.

Electoral Significance of TTAADC

The upcoming TTAADC elections hold significant political weight in Tripura’s power matrix. The autonomous council administers nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 sq km area, encompassing most of the tribal-inhabited regions. Out of its 30-member body, 28 members are elected, while two are nominated by the Governor.

Currently, the Tipra Motha Party governs the council, having won the majority in the 2021 elections. With the polls drawing near, the BJP, TMP, and its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) are all intensifying grassroots mobilisation efforts to strengthen their foothold among tribal voters.

Tribal communities constitute about one-third of Tripura’s total population of around four million, making their support pivotal in state politics. Of the 60 Assembly seats, 20 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, underscoring the political importance of tribal representation.

Strategic Preparations Underway

State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee took to social media to highlight the importance of Sunday’s organisational meeting. “In the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha at the state party office, I attended an organisational meeting convened with office bearers, morcha presidents, and district leaders. We discussed upcoming activities and framed directions for future action,” Bhattacharjee posted on X.

Party insiders indicated that booth-level strengthening, voter outreach programmes, and coordination among tribal leaders will remain the top priorities in the months leading to the elections.

With political equations rapidly evolving in the tribal belts, the BJP’s organisational recalibration and focus on alliance management will likely determine its electoral prospects in the 2026 TTAADC elections.
