Tripura leads nationally in women empowerment through SHGs, achieving 85% livelihood success under TRLM and RSETI programs. Strong financial inclusion, entrepreneurship growth, and rural transformation position the state as a model for sustainable development in India.
Tripura has achieved a significant milestone at the national level under the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) program for 2025–26, marking a major success for the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM). The state’s performance has not only earned national recognition but also positioned it as a model for women-led rural development across India.
Expressing gratitude for this achievement, TRLM officials acknowledged the crucial role played by RSETI directors and partnering banks in ensuring the program’s success. Their coordinated efforts have helped transform training initiatives into tangible livelihood opportunities, particularly for women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
According to the latest National Annual Report, Tripura recorded an impressive 85 percent livelihood settlement rate, placing it among the top three performing states in the country. This high success rate reflects the effectiveness of RSETIs in bridging the gap between skill development and sustainable income generation. SHG members who underwent structured training programs have successfully transitioned into entrepreneurship, establishing viable businesses across sectors.
Women in Tripura are now actively participating in economic activities such as agriculture, tailoring, food processing, and small-scale enterprises. These ventures have not only increased household incomes but also contributed to strengthening rural economies. The ripple effect of this transformation is visible in improved financial independence, enhanced decision-making power, and greater social recognition for women.
Another notable achievement is Tripura’s advancement in financial inclusion. The state secured the fifth position nationally with a 54 percent credit linkage rate, ensuring that a majority of SHG members have access to institutional finance. This access to credit has enabled women entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, adopt new technologies, and diversify income sources.
Officials attribute the success to a well-coordinated strategy that integrates grassroots participation with institutional backing. Training programs under RSETIs are carefully designed to match local market demands, ensuring that beneficiaries acquire relevant and practical skills. At the same time, banks have played a proactive role in extending financial support, making it easier for trained individuals to start or scale their enterprises.
Development experts believe that Tripura’s approach offers valuable lessons for other states aiming to enhance rural livelihoods and promote women’s empowerment. The combination of skill training, financial inclusion, and community engagement has created a sustainable model of development that can be replicated elsewhere.
Beyond the statistical achievements, the success of TRLM and RSETIs highlights the growing importance of SHGs as catalysts of inclusive growth. These groups have evolved into powerful platforms for social and economic change, enabling women to break traditional barriers and actively contribute to the state’s development.
