UPDATED : ARMY TAKES OVER CHARGE IN BANGLADESH

Bangladesh army has taken over the power following Prime Minister Shekh Hasina’s departure from Dhaka after resignation.

Chief of Armed Forces Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman in a televised statement at around 3.30 pm announced the formation of an interim government to rule the country.

Gen  Waker-Uz-Zaman asked all sides to remain calm and refrain from clashes and vandalism. He also assured the protesters that the interim government would ‘ensure justice’ for about nearly 300 people killed in the recent violence. It may be metioned here that only yesterday senior ad retired Army generals of Bangladesh had appealed to Hasina not to use Army against the protesters. At night Hasina held a top level meeting with Army, Navy, Airforce , RAB , BGB chiefs and discussed the situation.

This morning however broke with extreme anticipation and electrifying tension as the protesters got ready for the Long march to Ganavaban demanding Hasina’s resignation.

The army chief said that he would take the proposal for the interim government to President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Earlier, in the noon in a massive development Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka for an ‘undisclosed’ location as the protesters on a long march captured Gana Bhavan on Monday.

The army was going to take over the rein and the Army Chief Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman is scheduled to address the nation on Monday itself.

Reports reaching here from Bangladesh said, Sheikh Hasina resigned at the face of protests and left the country on which was being razed by violence for the last few weeks leaving more than 300 dead.

Dhaka reports said Hasina and her sister had been taken to a "safe shelter" away from her official residence.

In the meantime, speculations were rife that the disposed Bangladesh Prime Minister was being flown to Agartala in a helicopter.

Some other reports said she would be taken to Kolkata.

Both Agartala and Kolkata appeared to be likeliest destination for Hasina in case she decided the leave the country.

Details of the developments on Monday are not yet available. but high alert was already sounded and all concerned authorities and agencies were put in a battle ready position.
