Two Tripura youths reportedly dead in Manipur Landslide

Two youths from Tripura Sanjit Debnath and Prasanta Deb who were in the ill fated Territorial Army unit in Tupul, Manipur died in the catastrophic landslide that occurred two days ago. Reports said, Sanjit was a resident of Bishalgarh area while Prasanta was from Kalyanpur. Details of the diseased are not yet available.
In the meantime, reports reaching here, and also as reported by various agencies and media outlets , said on Saturday six more bodies of the army men buried alive under the massive earth mass following the landslip were recovered. With this total number of dead so far found stood at 27. Officials suspected that there could be 35 more bodies under the debris.
Rescue and Search operation was being carried out by the Joint Task Force with the local volunteers. Army, Territorial army, Assam Rifles, central and state disaster management agencies all were working 24 hours to clear the earth and trace the missing jawans.
Minister of Water Resources, IPR and Parliamentary Affairs of Assam Pijush Hajarika is visiting the landslide spot today.
Earlier, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh along with top Army and civil officials visited the disaster site at Tupul in western Manipur on Friday.
"In the landslide affected sites of Tupul, Ministers of the state Govt, local MLAs and officials are also camping to oversee the rescue operation. The loss of lives, including our armed forces personnel, is deeply saddening. We still have over 50 missing persons to be found."
"Visited the site in Tupul which was severely devastated by the landslide yesterday and took stock of the rescue operations. Heavy machinery along with 'Through Wall Imaging Radar' have also been deployed to expedite the operation," he said in a series of tweets.
