Tripura Gramin Bank Employees Announce Strikes and Shutdown Over 10 Demands

In a significant development, employees of Tripura Gramin Bank have announced a series of strikes and a complete shutdown of banking services in a bid to press for their 10-point demands. The protest actions are organized under the banner of the Joint Development Forum, comprising four key organizations—Tripura Gramin Bank Employees’ Association (TGBEA), Tripura Gramin Bank Employees’ Federation (TGBEF), Tripura Gramin Bank Officers’ Association (TGBOA), and Tripura Gramin Bank Officers’ Union (TGBOU).
On Saturday, a large number of bank employees staged a protest demonstration in front of the bank's Head Office in the state capital. Speaking to reporters, one of the officials underscored the importance of their demands, stating, "For a long time, we have been fighting for these demands in the interest of the employees and customers. But the management is completely silent, which has compelled us to take to the streets."
The 10-point demands include:

Modification of the transfer policy with proper consultation with recognized trade unions.

Providing greater transparency and eliminating favoritism.

Avoiding issuances of unnecessary show cause or DO letters to employees.

Providing hassle-free banking services for customers, including loans and other banking services.

Manpower calculation should align with SK Mitra recommendations and be communicated to recognized unions.

Posting of Principal Office bearers of recognized trade unions at the TGB Head Office to create a bridge between employees and employers.

Ensuring faster resolution of employee-Officer-related issues.

Repatriation of all deputed officers of the sponsor bank from Tripura Gramin Bank to provide growth and promotional opportunities for the employees of TGB.
Atanu Dhar, General Secretary of Tripura Gramin Bank Officers Union, highlighted the lack of essential facilities like toilets in many rural bank branches, making it difficult for women employees to work long hours. He emphasized that if the demands are not met, the employees will continue their agitation, including an indefinite strike starting from March 15, 2025.
Dhar also mentioned that the employees plan to shut down bank services on January 27, followed by a two-day strike on February 24-25, and an indefinite strike from March 15 if the management fails to comply with their demands.
