The Election Commission of India is likely to announce the election schedule for the by-polls in four assembly constituencies early next week. Official sources said, most probably the announcement may come off on Monday or Tuesday given the circumstances.

Explaining the nature of by-polls, an official said, by-elections are conducted periodically one after another. Results of recently held polls had been out naturally it’s Tripura’s turn now. “The first seat fell vacant on January 04 so the poll process needs to be completed by July 04 next. We have two months of time in hand”, said Chief Electoral Officer Tripura Kiran Gitte.

In the meantime, political parties are also getting ready to enter the electoral battle. BJP sources said, all the elections related preparations are at the final stage for the ruling party. Several meetings have been held and separate teams for each of the poll-bound constituencies are constituted to ensure smooth organization flow of command. Sources in the BJP said, “The party has also communicated the tentative list of candidates to New Delhi and the party High Command will take its call when the poll schedule is out”.

CPIM Tripura State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury who recently returned from Kerala after the party congress said that his party would leave no stones unturned and put up a strong fight against the ruling party. Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha have also announced that they would fight the polls from their stronghold constituencies. TPCC President Birajit Sinha said, if the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner, the saffron party will struggle to open its account in the ensuing elections.
