In a joint operation, Tripura Police ‘s intelligence and Military Intelligence nabbed two persons and subsequently seized huge amounts of fake currency from their possession, Superintendent of Police Khowai district Bhanupada Chakraborty said today.

“Acting on a tip off generated by our informers we have successfully detained two persons and fake currencies. Earlier, we received information that a huge amount of fake currency will be exchanged at Teliamura. Accordingly, the police and military intelligence planned the operation that led to a big seizure”, Chakraborty said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rakesh Molsom and Bajirai Reang. Both the accused persons hail from Taidu area. According to the police, both the youths went to an area close to Koroilong petrol pump to exchange the seized money. It was when the police detained them from the spot and seized the fake notes. A motorcycle and a car bearing registration numbers TR06A9270 and TR01Y0268 respectively.

“As per the primary estimates, the total worth of the fake currency would be Rs 5 lakh 72 thousand. The persons who were supposed to receive the money succeeded to escape the police dragnet”, sources in the police department said.

On knowing about the seizure, SP Khowai district Bhanupada Chakraborty rushed to Teliamura police station to interrogate the arrested persons. It is being suspected that they are a part of a big nexus.

“A case has been registered with the Teliamura police station. Charges under IPC section 489 (B) (C) and 120 (B) are invoked against the accused persons. We have been trying to trace the kingpin involved in the case”, said Chakraborty.
