Minister in-charge for Public Works Department (PWD), Sushanta Chowdhury, informed the Assembly on Thursday that 4,693 kilometers of roads across the state have been severely damaged by recent floods. He stated that the state government requires Rs. 1,900 crore to fully restore the affected roads, with an initial Rs. 200 crore already allocated for urgent repairs.
Chowdhury made these remarks in response to an urgent public attention notice raised by MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, emphasizing the critical need for swift road restoration. He also noted that under the current government, the total length of national highways in Tripura has increased to 14,858.31 kilometers.
In addition, Rs. 30 crore has been allocated annually in the state budget for road repairs in each assembly constituency. Several opposition leaders, including Jitendra Chowdhury, raised concerns about the extensive damage and its impact on daily life, urging rapid action.
