Chakma community celebrates Biju Rang Dhang as part of traditional Biju festival

Biju Rong Dhang’ was celebrated at the Agartala Town Hall on Sunday afternoon as part of the traditional Biju festival of the Chakma Janjati community. This event, organized by the Agartala-based Chakma Youth Cultural Forum, was inaugurated by the President's awarded and Padma Shri awardee Smritirekha Chakma, along with eminent senior journalist Srot Ranjan Khisa and other guests.

The Biju festival is a significant and traditional celebration within the Chakma community, spanning three days, including the last two days of the Bengali year of Chaitra and the first day of the New Year, Baisakh. State-wise Biju Melas are organized annually in Chakma-dominated areas, with this year's event held in the Machmara area of the Kanchanpur subdivision of Uttar district.

In light of this, a Biju cultural evening was arranged for Chakma people residing in the capital, Agartala, on Sunday. Artists from the Chakma Youth Cultural Forum performed Biju songs during the opening ceremony, while eminent guests engaged in discussions regarding the significance of Biju Rang Dhang celebration.

Distinguished guests, including President of Tripura Rejya Chakma Parishad Devyan Chakma, retired IAS officer TK Chakma, and prominent philanthropists such as Bimal Chakma, Yogamaya Chakma, and Kakali Chakma, were in attendance. During the event, Sroth Ranjan Khisa, Smriti Rekha Chakma, and Kakali Chakma were felicitated by the Chakma Youth Cultural Forum.
