On Monday, a large group of casual workers from the state health department gathered at the directorate of state health services to demand the regularization of their employment or, at the very least, equal pay for equal work, comparable to that of regular employees.
The casual workers, many of whom have been serving the department for over a decade, asserted that they meet the criteria for regularization under existing rules. Despite repeated appeals, the state government has yet to take any action to address their concerns.
Ratan Debnath, who led the deputation, highlighted that they previously filed a case in the High Court seeking regularization. On May 13, the High Court ruled in favor of the workers, instructing the government to ensure equal pay for equal work if the casual workers' services are not regularized.
"We are here today with the High Court's order to press the government to at least provide equal pay for equal work for the casual workers in our department," Debnath told reporters.
