Before the ensuing Lok Sabha elections the ruling BJP got a shot in the arms as senior Tinamool Congress leaders Ashis Lal Singha, son of former Chief Minister Sachindralal Singha, and Prasanta Bhattacharjee have officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The move was announced at a press conference held at the state party office, where they were warmly welcomed by BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury, and party’s state general secretary Amit Rakshit.
Ashis Lal Singha, who was previously associated with Trinamool Congress, was sidelined from the very beginning when the party tried to make a foray into the state. In stead of him some new comers were entrusted with the important party tasks and overnight flying leaders from Kolkata sought to manage the show . Result was as expected -Trinamool Congress humiliated and bit dust in all the polls that ensued.
On the other hand Prasanta Bhttacharjee who was Congress spokesman was peeved at the way AICC all of a sudden dropped TPCC president Birajit Sinha and made Asish Saha as the president.
Prasanta Bhattacharjee, voiced his discontentment with the Congress party, stating that it has become bankrupt and is now functioning by aligning itself with leftist ideologies. He further claimed that the Congress party has been reduced to the control of a single individual.
During the press conference, Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury extended an invitation to other opposition activists to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and partake in the developmental journey under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chowdhury emphasized that the BJP is the only alternative for the people.
State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, while welcoming the opposition leaders to the saffron brigade, announced that various programs would be organized across the state until July 18 to commemorate the 9 years of “Seva, Sushasan, and Garib Kalyan” (Service, Good Governance, and Welfare of the Poor) under the Modi-led government.
Bhattacharjee also expressed gratitude to the government led by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for two important cabinet decisions. The first decision mandates the possession of a PRTC (Permanent Resident Tripura Certificate) for all government jobs, while the second decision ensures the procurement of 35,000 metric tons of paddy from local farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the ongoing Kharif season.
In a separate meeting, Member of Parliament and Pradesh BJP in-charge Dr. Mahesh Sharma, who arrived in the state on Wednesday, held discussions with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha regarding crucial organizational matters.
The entry of Ashis Lal Singha and Prasanta Bhattacharjee into the BJP fold is expected to impact the political landscape of Tripura, as parties gear up for future elections in the state.
