A major security breach at Agartala’s MLA Hostel has raised alarm after three intoxicated youths allegedly threatened Tipra Motha MLA Philip Kumar Reang. Tipra Motha leaders met CM Manik Saha demanding stronger safety measures.

According to police reports, three intoxicated youths stormed into the newly constructed MLA Hostel near the ILS Hospital complex in Agartala around 10:30 PM, creating panic and allegedly threatening a sitting legislator.
The intruders reportedly hurled abusive language and issued death threats at Kanchanpur’s Tipra Motha MLA, Philip Kumar Reang, who was present at the hostel at the time. Despite the proximity of the NCC police station, the youths managed to flee in their vehicle before officers could arrive. The MLA immediately alerted the authorities, prompting a swift police response and the initiation of a formal investigation.
CCTV footage from the hostel premises is now under review to help identify the assailants and reconstruct their movements. It is not just about an attack on an MLA from our party—even if the attack was on any opposition MLA, we would have raised similar concerns. We have faith in the administration. Adequate steps will be taken to ensure that no such security lapse happens in future,” Debbarma stated.
The leaders also expressed solidarity with Philip Kumar Reang and reiterated that political differences should never overshadow the collective need for safety of all elected representatives.
