The steady erosion of Marxist bases continues unabated even as ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday led a major joining drive with 127 voters from 357 families at Majlishpur, once a red bastion and the constituency of former Power minister Manik Dey.

With an eye on the 2023 polls, Chowdhury is going whole hog to ensure maximum votes to BJP from his constituency.

Chowdhury is reportedly performing with a high spirit as a minister while his role as the party leader is also leaving a mark of satisfaction among the people of Majlishpur—and the result is erosion of the CPM vote bank in such numbers.

According to some of the locals of Majlishpur, Chowdhury’s mindset to ensure government facilities to all irrespective of political colors is one of the reasons that is attracting the people to join BJP.

After welcoming the newcomers to saffron camp, Chowdhury highlighted the major achievements of the BJP government over the past four years. He also spoke about the works done by him after being elected as an MLA.

Chowdhury said, the Left supporters are now realizing that the CPM, their friend Congress and Trinamool Congress would not be able to solve their issues. As a result, they are now keeping faith in BJP’s ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Viswas’ policy.

Majlishpur mandal president Gouranga Bhowmik, vice-chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samity Pritam Debnath and other local leaders were present in the joining programme.
