Trinamool Congress got a shot in the arms on Tuesday when disgruntled BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman launched a scathing attack on his own party leadership in a press meet. Soon after Roy Barman alleged large scale violence and abnormal situation in the state at the run up of the ULB polls slated on November 25 and held Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb responsible , the TMC did not miss the opportunity and came out with statements supporting Roy Barman.
Roy Barman who was always accused of playing second fiddle to the opposition parties at the cost of his own party BJP whenever there was an election –allegedly to discredit his bête noir Biplab Kumar Deb- , had been referred to time and again, though mostly in oblique manners, for helping the Trinamool Congress in its fight against the BJP. The allegations found credence as some of Roy barman’s close associates were found to be in the candidate list of the Trinamool Congress.
However, on Tuesday Roy Barman, flanked by his comrade in arms Ashish Saha, another BJP MLA, came out in open although he limited his accusations to his own party unit leaders in the state and sought to avoid questions that indicated his links with the opposition party.
Roy Barman’s allegations were hard hitting and strong and his desperation was palpable. The allegations made against the ruling party by its own MLA only added credence to the Trinamool Congress and its leaders like Kunal Ghosh and Bratya Basu in front of media used it in full scale to drive their point –that BJP was not allowing them to go for poll campaign and violence were committed against their leaders and workers.
Roy Barman had earlier also made almost similar allegations but this time he chose his language and words in a much more bitter mood.
BJP leaders officially are not commenting on his allegations as yet, but sources said the matter was taken seriously and higher echelon of the party was duly informed.
Many pointed out that even as Roy Barman was losing relevance to a great extent in recent time in the state politics and preferred to remain low key , might have some future plan for his out bursts.- which would be clear only after the civic polls would be over and results declared.
