In response to a serious incident of food poisoning affecting approximately 15 boarders at Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Residential Hostel in Indranagar, swift measures have been implemented. The Warden and Caretaker of the hostel have been terminated from their positions, and the society responsible for managing the hostel under the Tribal Welfare department has been issued a show-cause notice.
The affected boarders, all students of Bodhjungnagar Girls’ School, fell ill during their classes on Thursday, prompting immediate action. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha directed Addl. Secretary and Director of the Tribal Welfare department, S. Prabhu, to inspect the hostel.
During the inspection, it was discovered that hygiene standards were inadequate within the hostel premises. Furthermore, the boarders were not receiving meals as per the prescribed Food Menu from the Tribal Welfare department, as revealed in the initial report.
Consequently, S. Prabhu addressed a letter to the Secretary/President of the managing society, instructing for the termination of the Hostel Warden and Caretaker based on their findings.
The incident underscores the importance of maintaining strict adherence to hygiene protocols and ensuring that food served in residential facilities meets prescribed standards. The Tribal Welfare department continues to investigate the matter to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to safeguard the well-being of all residents under its care.
