Tripura is set to join the nationwide celebrations of the 10th International Yoga Day, announced Minister Tinku Roy today. The state-level event is scheduled to take place at the International Fair Grounds, Hapania, where participants from various schools and volunteers from CRPF, BSF, TSR, and NSS will actively engage in yoga sessions.

In a press conference at the civil secretariat, Minister Roy underscored the global significance of yoga, recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pivotal role in its global observance since 2014. Following Modi’s address at the United Nations, June 21 was designated as the International Day of Yoga by the UN.

Roy highlighted Tripura’s consistent efforts in promoting yoga across its eight districts, subdivisions, and blocks. He noted that yoga has been integrated into the state’s Sports Policy, with schools and sports centers now offering dedicated yoga programs.

The minister also praised Tripura’s recent achievements in yoga, including hosting events during the Khelo India University Games where the state secured a notable second position. Roy emphasized the active participation of Tripura’s youth in nationwide yoga competitions, enhancing the state’s reputation in this field.

Additionally, Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Department, Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, announced a special discussion scheduled for Friday, focusing on increasing millet production and awareness. Chakraborty highlighted the nutritional benefits of millets, noting their designation as the International Millet Year by the United Nations in 2023. He mentioned ongoing efforts by the Tripura Department of Agriculture to promote millet cultivation and raise awareness about its health benefits.

Acting Director PK Deb of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department was also present at the press conference to support these initiatives.

The preparations reflect Tripura’s commitment to both physical well-being through yoga and agricultural sustainability through initiatives like millet cultivation, aligning with national and global health objectives.
