New Delhi/Khartoum: An Indian citizen lost his life when he was hit by a stray bullet in Khartoum amid clashes between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday expressed grief over the death and said the Indian Embassy is making all efforts to extend assistance to the family.

The Indian Embassy in Sudan said in a tweet: It has been reported that Mr Albert Augestine, an Indian National working in a Dal Group Company in Sudan who got hit by a stray bullet yesterday succumbed to his injuries. Embassy is in touch with family and medical authorities to make further arrangements.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in a tweet said that the situation in Sudan is of great concern and that India is monitoring the situation.

On Saturday, the Indian Embassy had asked all Indians living in Sudan to take utmost precautions, stay indoors and not venture outside. It also urged Indians planning to travel to Sudan to postpone their travel.

The fighting erupted in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and elsewhere in the country as a direct result of a vicious power struggle within the countrys military leadership.
