Tripura recorded a hooping 53 per cent increase in vegetable production during the last three years said, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday.
While attending a programme at Horticulture Research Complex, Nagicherra in the out skirt of the city Deb said there was also expansion of area for floriculture in open places by 87 percent had been achieved during the last three years.
Deb accompanied by Agriculture minister Pranajit Singha Roy pointed out that already a large section of unemployed youths could be motivated to join the farming sectors. That brought about a visible change in the agriculture, floriculture and other related areas and also ensured self-reliance of the youths.
The Chief Minister said, development of the primary sector is the prime condition for overall growth of any state and his government already took various steps to bring a change in the state’s primary sector including Agriculture.
“We are working with the target to double farmers’ income before 2022. There was a time when the farmers were neglected due to a positive mind-set. But, at present time, the farmers are getting respect. The schemes of state and central governments are helping the farmers increase their income,” Deb said.
The Chief Minister also stated that initiatives were already taken for marketing of farmers’ production so that they don’t face loss.
The Agriculture minister said that the growth rate in the Agriculture sector had increased and his department had taken steps to bring 100 percent farmers under Fasal Bima Yojana.
The progressive farmers from eight districts participated in the programme.
Principal Scientist, ICAR-NRCB- Dr. V. Kumar (Tamil Nadu), Agriculture secretary C.K. Jamatia and director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Dr. Phani Bhusan Jamatia among others were present.
