SS Rajamouli expresses emotional conflict ahead of the IPL 2025 final between Punjab Kings and RCB, praising both Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli. While Iyer led an underdog team to glory, Kohli chases his elusive trophy. Either outcome, Rajamouli says, will be a heartbreak.
As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final draws near, emotions are running high — not just among fans, but also among celebrities. Celebrated film director S.S. Rajamouli, known for cinematic blockbusters like Baahubali and RRR, took to social media to express his emotional turmoil ahead of the big clash between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Rajamouli admitted that no matter who lifts the trophy this year, it will be a personal heartbreak. His emotional post underscores the dual admiration he holds for both teams’ stalwarts — Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer and RCB icon Virat Kohli.
Rajamouli praised Shreyas Iyer for his consistency and leadership over the years. “Iyer guiding Bumrah’s and Boult’s yorkers to the third man boundary… Exquisite,” he wrote, reminiscing about Iyer’s elegance and calm under pressure. He noted how Iyer has been repeatedly dropped from national duties despite leading his franchises to success. After steering Delhi Capitals to a final and taking Kolkata Knight Riders to a title, Iyer has now captained a young Punjab Kings side — featuring six uncapped Indian players — to their first final in 11 years.
“Iyer deserves this year’s trophy,” Rajamouli declared, acknowledging the captain’s perseverance and impact.
However, Rajamouli’s support was not one-sided. He also heaped praise on Virat Kohli, who has long been the backbone of RCB. “It is Kohli… who is performing year on year… compiling thousands of runs. The final frontier for him… He deserves it too,” he added.
The final, he concluded, was bound to be heartbreaking — either way.

Rajamouli is not alone in his admiration for Shreyas Iyer. Acclaimed Tamil director and writer Rathna Kumar also lauded Iyer’s leadership skills. Sharing a video clip of cricket analysts applauding Iyer’s strategic captaincy, Rathna Kumar wrote, “Whattteee Bloody Run chase. Probably the most deserving team to win the Trophy this year. Shreyas Iyer is easily the best Captain and finisher of the current Indian cricket team. Be Very Scared.”
The IPL final promises more than just cricketing action — it embodies stories of resilience, leadership, and long-awaited triumphs. Whether it’s a fairytale ending for Iyer or long-overdue redemption for Kohli, one thing is clear: emotions will run deep, and hearts will break, regardless of the result.
