Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya today said that the labour board will soon bring gig workers under social security. Dr Mandaviya made this statement after inaugurating the two-day International Seminar on Formalization and Social Security Coverage for Workers in the Informal Sector in New Delhi. He highlighted that social security for workers, without any kind of discrimination, is the priority of the government.

Dr. Mandaviya informed that around 60 crore people are covered under the health security schemes of the government and receive free medical treatment of up to five lakh rupees. The Minister mentioned that around 5 kilograms of food grains are provided to people so that no one is deprived of basic food. He also said that India has improved the ease of doing business by attracting Foreign Direct Investment from multinational corporations.

Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Labour and Employment Secretary Sumita Dawra spoke about how the seminar delves into the prospect of bringing India’s 600 million workforce under the various provisions of social security.

Talking to the media, International Social Security Association President Dr Mohammed Azman highlighted India’s progress through the e-Shram program in bringing 90 percent of the informal sector under a database.
