The Tripura Commission for Women, in collaboration with Kadamtala R.D. Block, Bitan Social Organisation, and Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, organized a seminar and felicitation program at Kadamtala Chandrakala Town Hall ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The event was inaugurated by Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Women, in the presence of Inter-state Child Rights Protection Project Manager Manika Bhattacharjee, Commission member Ratna Debnath Kar, Block Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath, and social worker Rupali Adhikari.

Speakers highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and addressed the ongoing challenges faced by women in a patriarchal society. Jharna Debbarma spoke about the prevalence of child marriage and urged parents to prevent marriages of girls below 18. She also raised concerns over rising drug addiction among youth, particularly in the northern districts, warning of its link to HIV infections.

During the event, all Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad members, along with women Pradhans and Upa-Pradhans from Kadamtala Block, were felicitated. Additionally, the region’s only female agar trader and a young boxer were honored for their achievements.
