National Award-winning actor Saurabh Shukla highlights honesty in relationships, warning that secrecy breeds betrayal. Speaking about his film Jab Khuli Kitaab, he explains how truth, even when painful, strengthens love and redefines emotional trust.

National Award-winning actor and filmmaker Saurabh Shukla has opened up about the critical role of honesty in relationships, asserting that hiding the truth often leads to deeper emotional damage than the truth itself. Speaking in connection with his latest film Jab Khuli Kitaab, the veteran actor reflected on love, trust, and the consequences of secrecy.

Shukla, known for his powerful performances across cinema and theatre, shared his belief that openness is the foundation of any meaningful relationship. According to him, concealment—no matter how small—creates cracks that eventually weaken the bond between partners.

“You should not hide things, at least I believe that,” Shukla said. “Hiding has a problem because once it is exposed, it creates a feeling of betrayal.” His statement underscores a universal emotional truth: that the pain of being kept in the dark often outweighs the actual mistake or event itself.

The actor explained that when a partner withholds information, it leads to deeper questions about trust and mutual respect. “It’s not about the act; it’s about the fact that you were kept uninformed. That becomes a bigger betrayal,” he said. According to Shukla, such situations often trigger insecurity and doubt, making individuals question the very foundation of their relationship.

Drawing from both personal insight and his cinematic narrative, Shukla emphasized that transparency allows partners to understand each other fully—the strengths, flaws, and everything in between. “Ideally, you should have a relationship where you can be open,” he added, reinforcing his belief in emotional honesty.

Interestingly, Shukla connected his perspective on relationships to a philosophical thought by the renowned poet Rumi. Quoting Rumi, he said, “Light always enters through the crack in the wall,” suggesting that even painful truths can bring clarity and growth.

He elaborated on how this idea plays out in his film Jab Khuli Kitaab. The story revolves around a couple who appear to have a perfect relationship—strong, stable, and seemingly without flaws. However, the revelation of a hidden truth shatters this illusion, creating emotional upheaval.

“But as a by-product, what entered was the light of truth,” Shukla explained. “The room got illuminated by this light.” This metaphor highlights the transformative power of truth, even when it initially disrupts harmony.

According to the actor, once everything is out in the open, the relationship reaches a new level of authenticity. Partners are no longer bound by illusions but are instead grounded in reality. “When the truth comes out, there is nothing left to hide. Then you know everything about your partner—the good and the flawed,” he said.

Shukla further noted that if a couple chooses to stay together after confronting the truth, their relationship becomes even stronger. It evolves into a bond based on complete understanding and acceptance. “If, knowing everything, you still stay together, how truthful that relationship becomes,” he remarked.

The actor concluded by stating that such honesty ultimately redefines love itself. Once secrecy is removed, relationships gain a new depth—one that is rooted in acceptance rather than perfection.

Through both his words and his latest film, Saurabh Shukla delivers a compelling message: while truth may be uncomfortable, it is essential for building genuine, lasting connections.
