Surjyamaninagar MLA Ram Prasad Paul inaugurated 16 stalls near Ramthakur Ashram to promote youth self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Highlighting transparency in jobs and urging youth to explore self-employment, the initiative aims to create livelihood opportunities, reduce unemployment, and foster grassroots economic development in Tripura.
Surjyamaninagar MLA Ram Prasad Paul has taken a significant step toward promoting economic empowerment and self-reliance among the youth by inaugurating 16 newly established stalls along the Ramthakur Ashram CC Road, adjacent to the Moloy Nagar Gram Panchayat Bypass and Nagicherra Bypass. The initiative aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for unemployed individuals while encouraging entrepreneurship and reducing dependency on government jobs.
The inauguration event, held in the presence of the Block Chairman and local Panchayat members, reflected strong grassroots support for this community-driven project. Local residents and beneficiaries expressed optimism that such ventures would provide them with stable income and a sense of independence.
Promoting Self-Reliance Among Youth
Addressing the gathering, MLA Ram Prasad Paul emphasized that the government’s priority is to foster self-reliance among young people by enabling them to build careers beyond the conventional scope of government employment.

“Our government stresses on self-reliance. Youths must not only sit back and hope for government jobs but also try to earn a good livelihood by other means,” Paul stated.
He underlined the fact that the Central and State governments are offering a wide range of schemes and loan facilities to support youth entrepreneurship, agriculture, small businesses, and other income-generating activities. Paul encouraged young individuals to take advantage of these resources instead of remaining dependent on limited government recruitment drives.
Transparency in Employment and Criticism of the Left Government
In his speech, Paul also drew attention to the controversial issue of the 10,323 retrenched teachers, which remains a major socio-political concern in Tripura. He blamed the plight of these teachers on the corruption and mismanagement of the previous Left government, accusing it of mishandling recruitment processes.
“We are not giving government jobs to our party karyakartas or selling jobs. We believe in transparency, and those with merit are getting jobs,” Paul asserted.
By distancing the present government from accusations of nepotism, Paul reassured the youth and the public that fairness and meritocracy remain central to recruitment policies under the current administration.
Shifting Mindsets Toward Entrepreneurship
The event also witnessed an address by the Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, who echoed Paul’s sentiments by urging the youth to change their perspective regarding employment.
“Don’t sit idle hoping for government jobs. Start something of your own and become an employer,” he encouraged. His message reinforced the importance of entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-driven economic activities for sustainable development.
A Step Toward Grassroots Economic Development
The 16 stalls are more than just small business spaces; they symbolize a model of grassroots economic development. Such localized initiatives are expected to benefit not only the individuals directly involved but also the broader community by boosting local trade and economic circulation.
Local entrepreneurs who secure these stalls will have opportunities to sell food, daily essentials, garments, and other products in the growing commercial hub near Ramthakur Ashram. This approach is designed to gradually expand economic opportunities in rural and semi-urban Tripura, reducing unemployment and migration pressures.
Looking Ahead
The inauguration of these stalls marks the beginning of what many hope will be a broader push to strengthen youth-led enterprises in Tripura. With the active participation of Panchayats, MLAs, and local administrative bodies, the government’s focus is clearly shifting toward enabling self-employment, thereby reducing reliance on shrinking government job opportunities.
By combining infrastructure support, easy loan access, and policy encouragement, initiatives such as these could pave the way for Tripura’s young generation to transform from job-seekers into job-creators.
