
Intermittent and heavy rains continue to lash out at the state causing flood like situations in many parts of the state, especially in West, Gomati and South Tripura districts. Almost all rivers in the southern part of the state were swollen and flowing above the flood level. Belonia received highest rain fall- 214.40 mm. There were also reports of waterlogging and disruptions of traffic movements in some parts as trees got uprooted and fell on the road. However, concerned authorities had already taken initiatives to clear the roads of the fallen trees. Situation remained grim.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha himself came out with a statement in the social media that South Tripura district had been receiving continuous rainfall for the past 24 hours:
According to the IMD report, Belonia had received the highest rainfall of 214.40 mm, whereas the rainfall in Sabroom and Bagafa was recorded as 152.00 mm and 80.00 mm respectively.
“The heavy rainfall has caused rising of water levels in the rivers Muhuri and Lawgang. Presently, the water level of Muhuri is at 26.60 mtr, which exceeds the expected flood level of 23.60 mtr but below the critical level of 27.50 mtr. The Lawgang is at 24.50 mtr, which is flowing above the danger level of 24.00 mtr”, said the Chief Minister.
The water level of the Muhuri river had already crossed safe limits. Shelters had been made ready and public announcements for precautionary evacuation started. Action was also taken for shifting of water-logged families from Belonia and Santirbazar urban areas .
As reported, six houses had so far been partly damaged in Belonia Sub Division and necessary support is being extended to the affected families.
Aapda Mitra and Civil Defence Volunteers, TSR, TSECL, Forest and other QRTs were put on standby and would be pressed into action if the situation worsens.
“There is no need to panic, the administration is closely monitoring the overall situation and prepared to deal with any eventuality. We appeal to the people residing in the district to stay alert and contact the local administration in case of any emergency”, the Chief Minister said.
The capital city like many other towns of the state also witnesses a sleepy day under rains. The traffic or people’s movement was less and many shops remained shut. There was , however, no severe waterlogging in the city this time,
