West Tripura will begin the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls on September 5, with house-to-house verification from September 15 and the final voter list scheduled for publication on December 23, District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar said.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Tripura district will begin from September 5, with the final electoral roll scheduled to be published on December 23, District Election Officer and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar said.
Dr Kumar made the announcement on Friday while addressing a press conference at Sonar Tori State Guest House in Agartala. The briefing was held as part of efforts to create greater public awareness about the electoral roll revision exercise and ensure accurate dissemination of information about the process.
According to the schedule outlined by the district administration, the initial phase of the SIR will begin on September 5 with training, planning and preparations for house-to-house verification. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will distribute the necessary forms to voters and assist citizens during the revision process.
The house-to-house verification exercise will be conducted from September 15 to October 14. Following the completion of the verification process, the draft electoral roll will be published on October 21.
Voters will then have an opportunity to submit claims and objections from October 21 to November 20. Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) will conduct hearings and dispose of claims and objections between October 21 and December 19, according to the schedule.
Dr Kumar said helpdesks would be opened at the offices of the District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrates from September 5 to provide assistance to citizens throughout the SIR exercise. He urged voters to remain in regular contact with their respective BLOs and approach the designated helpdesks whenever they require clarification or assistance.
The District Magistrate said the primary objective of the Special Intensive Revision was to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons.
West Tripura district comprises three subdivisions — Sadar, Mohanpur and Jirania — and has 14 Assembly constituencies. The district has 14 Electoral Registration Officers, 42 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, 57 Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, 82 BLO supervisors and 795 BLOs.
The district currently has 795 polling stations. The administration has also proposed 67 additional polling stations under the proposed rationalisation process for 2025 and 2026. In addition, proposals have been made for the reorganisation of 32 new sections and the shifting of seven polling station locations.
West Tripura currently has 6,99,429 registered voters. Of them, 6,38,320 voters, accounting for 91.26 per cent, have already been mapped, while 61,109 voters remain outside the mapping exercise.
The district administration has appealed to voters to actively participate in the verification process and cooperate with BLOs during house-to-house visits. Citizens have also been advised to make use of the helpdesks and voter helpline whenever necessary.
The toll-free voter helpline 1950 will remain available throughout the SIR process, providing another channel for voters to seek information and assistance.
The announcement came a day after a Press Meet-cum-Workshop on the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls was held on August 28 at Sonar Tori Guest House in Agartala. The workshop focused on sensitising media representatives about the SIR process, electoral roll revision procedures and the importance of accurate public information.

The interaction also provided an opportunity for media representatives to raise queries and develop a clearer understanding of the revision exercise, with the broader objective of helping voters understand the procedures and participate effectively.

With the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on December 23, the district administration has called upon eligible voters to remain engaged throughout the revision process and complete the required verification and documentation within the prescribed timelines.
