Transport minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday informed the House that the state government had proposed two new express trains in Agartala- Mumbai and Agartala- Guwahati routes for four days in a week.
He said that the proposals were sent to the General Manager (operation) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on February 25 and 28.
In his reply to a calling attention notice moved by Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, he said, another proposal for transforming the single-line tracks in the state into double lines was sent to the Planning Department (NER Vision 2035).
He said, six express trains are operating in the state at present. Tripura Sundari Express (Firojpur- Punjab) runs once a week, Agartala- Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express runs four days in a week, Agartala- Anand Vihar Tejas Rajdhani Express runs once a week, Agartala- Bangalore Humsafar Express runs twice a week, Agartala- Deoghar Express train runs once a week, Habibganj Express (Bhopal- Madhya Pradesh) runs once a week, Agartala- Silchar express runs daily and Jiribam- Agartala Jan Shatabdi Express runs thrice a week.
Besides, three pairs of local/ DEMU trains (daily) are also in operation on the Agartala- Sabroom route and one pair of special DEMU trains run between Agartala and Dharmanagar on a daily basis, the Transport minister told the House.
He said, according to the Ministry of Railways, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) company has been assigned for electrification in rail tracks between Badarpur and Sabroom while the land survey process is underway.
