Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had written a letter to the Minister of Railways proposing for linking Tripura with the rail network of Trans-Asian countries through connectivity between Jawharnagar in Tripura’s Dhalai district to Darlawn in Mizoram (109 km) and Kalay in Mayanmar. This was informed by Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy in his reply to a calling attention notice moved by Chief Whip Kalyani Roy informed the assembly .The letter was sent on February 16 last.

Survey for various other projects also completed in the state, he said, adding that the Chief Minister had written another letter to the Minister of Railways on January 21 last for including such projects in the Rail Budget- 2022 and sanctioning funds.

The projects included 30-km long Belonia- Feni rail link, construction of Dharmanagar- Kailashahar- Pecharthal rail track (41.75 km), Dharmanagar- Belonia via Kailashahar- Kamalpur- Khowai- Mohanpur and Agartala alternative rail line (178.72 km).

He also expressed hope that the Agartala- Akhaura rail service (12.30 km) would start by the next financial year.

The Transport minister also stated that the Chief Minister in a separate letter to the Minister of Railways on June 30, last year had proposed extension of rail network from Dharmanagar to Juri in Bangladesh (25 km).
