PM Modi launches ₹42,000 crore projects in agriculture and allied sectors, including PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, to boost productivity, self-reliance, and rural development across India.
In a major push towards strengthening India’s agricultural backbone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil and lay the foundation of several transformative projects and schemes worth over ₹42,000 crore in the agriculture and allied sectors on Saturday. The announcement underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to make the nation’s farming ecosystem more self-reliant, sustainable, and technology-driven.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi will launch two major initiatives in the agriculture sector with a combined outlay of ₹35,440 crore — the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses. Both schemes are designed to address long-standing challenges in agricultural productivity, diversification, and infrastructure, while ensuring long-term benefits for farmers.
PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: A New Era for Indian Agriculture
With an outlay of ₹24,000 crore, the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana aims to revolutionize agricultural productivity by promoting crop diversification and sustainable farming practices. The scheme will support the creation of post-harvest storage infrastructure at panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation systems, and ensure easy access to short- and long-term credit in 100 selected districts across the country.
The initiative will also focus on helping farmers adopt modern techniques that boost crop yields while protecting soil and water resources. By providing better access to storage and irrigation, the government hopes to reduce post-harvest losses, stabilize prices, and enhance income security for farmers.
Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses: Strengthening Food Security
The Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, launched with an investment of ₹11,440 crore, seeks to make India self-reliant in pulse production. The mission targets increased productivity, expanded cultivation areas, and a robust value chain that includes procurement, storage, and processing facilities.
India is one of the world’s largest consumers of pulses, but domestic production has often fallen short of demand. Through this mission, the government aims to minimize import dependency while ensuring better income and stability for pulse growers. By improving productivity and reducing losses across the supply chain, the initiative will play a crucial role in strengthening national food security.
Boost to Allied Sectors: Dairy, Fisheries, and Food Processing
In addition to the agricultural schemes, PM Modi will inaugurate and dedicate to the nation various projects worth over ₹5,450 crore in allied sectors such as animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing. He will also lay the foundation stone for new projects valued at around ₹815 crore.
Key inaugurations include the Artificial Insemination Training Centers in Bengaluru and Jammu & Kashmir, Centres of Excellence at Amreli and Banas, and an IVF Lab in Assam under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate Milk Powder Plants in Mehsana, Indore, and Bhilwara, as well as a Fish Feed Plant at Tezpur, Assam, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
The foundation-laying ceremonies will include significant infrastructure projects such as an Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure (Irradiation) facility in Krishna, Andhra Pradesh; Trout Fisheries in Uttarakhand; Integrated Aqua Parks in Nagaland and Odisha; and a Smart and Integrated Fishing Harbour in Karaikal, Puducherry. These initiatives will help boost productivity, generate employment, and enhance export potential in India’s blue economy.
Strengthening Farmer Welfare and Rural Infrastructure
PM Modi will participate in a special Krishi programme at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi, where he will interact with farmers engaged in pulse cultivation and those benefiting from various government initiatives. He is also expected to address a public gathering highlighting the government’s vision for a prosperous and self-reliant rural India.
According to the PMO, the programme reflects the Prime Minister’s consistent commitment to farmer welfare, agricultural self-reliance, and rural development. It aims to promote modern farming techniques, encourage youth participation in agriculture, and celebrate achievements in farmer-centric innovation and policy implementation.
