PM Modi’s historic visit to Jammu and Kashmir sees multi-layered security as he flags off the Vande Bharat Express and launches ₹46,000 crore development projects. Key highlights include the USBRL rail link, Chenab and Anji bridges, road projects, and a new medical college in Reasi.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for a landmark visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, authorities have implemented an elaborate, multi-layered security apparatus to ensure a smooth and safe event. The visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to the region since the highly strategic “Operation Sindoor,” making this not only politically significant but also symbolically important for national integration and regional development.
The highlight of the visit is the flagging off of the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express to the Kashmir Valley, an achievement being touted as a new chapter in India’s railway and infrastructure history. However, what stands out just as prominently is the scale and precision of the security arrangements surrounding the visit.
A robust security grid comprising the Special Protection Group (SPG), Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and Jammu and Kashmir Police has been deployed in full force. Hundreds of personnel have been strategically stationed along the PM’s route, especially on the Katra-Baramulla rail line. The security plan involves electronic surveillance, drone patrolling, sniffer dogs, and night vision monitoring devices.
A senior officer overseeing the arrangements emphasized, “No chances whatsoever are being taken to secure the Prime Minister’s visit tomorrow. Every imaginable security parameter has been covered to make this visit completely safe and historic.”
Particular attention is being paid to vantage points along the mountainous railway track between Katra and Baramulla, where army personnel have taken up positions, ensuring aerial and ground-level security surveillance.
PM Modi’s visit isn’t limited to security and symbolism. It is a major step in India’s developmental push in Jammu and Kashmir. On Friday, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, lay foundation stones, and dedicate developmental projects worth over ₹46,000 crore.
Among the key infrastructure projects:
-
Two Vande Bharat trains will be flagged off — one from Mata Vaishno Devi base camp in Katra to Srinagar, and the return journey as well. These trains promise reduced travel time by 2–3 hours, bringing the journey down to just about three hours.
-
The Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge, and the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, will be inaugurated, marking major engineering milestones.
-
The PM will also dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) to the nation. This 272-km-long railway marvel features 36 tunnels (covering 119 km) and 943 bridges, constructed at a cost of ₹43,780 crore. It is being hailed as a transformative project that provides all-weather rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of India.
-
The foundation stone for multiple road and highway projects will also be laid, including the Shopian bypass, Rafiabad-Kupwara highway, and two flyovers at Sangrama and Bemina in Srinagar to address traffic congestion.
-
A significant healthcare milestone will be marked with the foundation stone laying of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, Katra. With an estimated cost of over ₹350 crore, it will be Reasi district’s first medical college.
All ceremonies — including inaugurations and foundation-laying — will be conducted virtually from Katra, maximizing efficiency while ensuring a strong security posture on the ground.
